Wet granulation is a common process used in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of OSD forms such as tablets and capsules.
It differs from Dry Granulation in that it uses a liquid to bind the various excipients and API together to form agglomerated granules. The agglomerated granules are then milled, dried, milled again, blended with the addition of a lubricant and can then be compressed into tablets or capsules.
The most common wet granulation equipment is a high shear mixer or fluid bed granulator.
