When a tablet is formed, small amounts of excess powder spill onto the die table; the excess powder is usually extracted into a central extraction system or removed using a vacuum cleaner. These conventional methods cause blockage and require the subsequent replacement of filters, loss of suction during blinding and inaccurate or non-existent batch reconciliation. Cyclone technology can address these challenges by localizing dust capture, preventing filter blockage and even allowing pharmaceutical manufacturers to recover lost powder.
Hanningfield‘s Powder Recovery Cyclones are specifically designed for the recovery of lost powder. Typically the Uni-Dust is employed in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical OSD processes such as compression and encapsulation to re-capture between 90-99% of lost material. More recently, a number of other industries have realised the benefits of introducing the Uni-Dust Cyclone to their process set up.
For a recent project, we worked alongside a customer to manufacture a highly customised Type 50 Cyclone, designed to intercept the powder before this hits the filters. The unit featured a self-cleaning filter unit with continuous online filter clean, and a 20 litre catchpot with level, flow and resonance sensor. The custom design also included a side channel blower with VFD, Siemens HMI control panel for system operation, and a H14 HEPA filter with 99.997% efficiency at 0.3µm.
