In modern pharmaceutical processing, the containment and control of powder is a key issue. This makes the loss of excess powder from compression and filling machines one of the most significant problems in powder processing.
A Powder Recovery Cyclone is not typically seen as an essential piece of equipment for process rooms, but when customers experience the benefits of this system, they often introduce more units to their process setting.
The cyclone is specifically designed to capture 90% – 99% of waste powder. Hanningfield has vast knowledge on the benefits of adding a recovery cyclone to your process. Here are many of the ways in which this system can improve your process;
Improve Batch Loss Reconciliation >>>
Powder loss during encapsulation or tabletting is unavoidable, but a best practice approach to handling the material can go a long way to minimise your losses and the headache.
Most processing sites will already have connected their compression or encapsulation machine to a dust extraction source, but this does little to reconcile the powder losses. With yields typically reaching a few kilograms, it is important to verify how much powder you are losing. It is also crucial to know where this lost powder is going. This is particularly important in the era of increasing powder potency. Thus proving the lost powder has been disposed of safely is vital.
Importantly, our cyclone can be mounted inside the process room (adjacent to the process machine) for maximum integrity of results. The simplicity and effectiveness of the cyclone can prevent time-consuming room shutdowns while investigating powder losses.
Save Money & Reduce Downtime >>>
On most pharmaceutical or nutraceutical blends, the cyclone typically operates with 90 – 99.9% efficiency. This means the majority of powder usually lost to the security filters of the CDE will instead be caught in the catch-pot of the cyclone.
An isolation valve fitted above the catch-pot allows the operator to remove and change the catch-pot when full, without ever shutting down production. With the bulk of the waste powder now captured by the cyclone, the security filters of your dust extraction system will last far longer and prevent fluctuating air flow as filters become more blocked. This will prevent the need for regular cleaning of said filters and drastically prolong their life between replacements which can prove highly expensive.
Easy to Install >>>
The Hanningfield Uni-Dust cyclone requires minimal installation. It is supplied with a simple wall bracket or mobile trolley, hence there is little impact on the process room and associated expensive installation costs. With Tri-Clamp connections on both the inlet and outlet, the cyclone is quickly fitted in line with existing pipework. Similarly, the design causes minimum pressure drop with negligible loss of airflow from the existing dust extraction line.
Easy to Clean >>>
Assembly and disassembly of our cyclone is incredibly quick, simple and intuitive. The cyclone has no filters, no moving parts and can be fully disassembled using only quick release Tri-Clamp connections. This enables it to be rapidly dismantled, cleaned and returned to the process room.
ATEX Exempt >>>
As mentioned, the Hanningfield cyclone has no moving parts and no filter and has been assessed by a notified body as ATEX exempt; this enables it to be safely used in environments up to ATEX Zone 0/20 (or Class1 Div1). As many process rooms now contend with ATEX regulations, equipment must be carefully selected to meet explosion proof criteria.
