One decision to consider to achieve optimal mill performance is selecting the right mill screen for your application.
At Hanningfield, we offer a plethora of choices in mill screens to suit your specific requirements. We are able to help you achieve your desired particle range by selecting the right mill screen, thus enhancing the overall performance of your conical mill.
Our experts are on hand to help you in the selection process of your mill screen. If your initial set up requires fine tuning, it is very quick and simple to change your particle size by selecting a different mill screen, giving your process increased flexibility.
There is a choice of Round Hole, Grater Hole, Square Hole, Conidur Hole, Slotted Hole and Diffusion Bonded mill screens.
Round Hole Screen
The Round Hole mill screen is commonly used for cone milling applications. This type of screen is used in size reduction of free-flowing materials, granules and powders. A variety of screen mesh sizes are available in varying sizes and different apertures to suit your specific requirements. Common applications of round hole mill screens include most powders, APIs or most other dry, friable materials.
Designed for standard milling applications, a round hole screen is used to size the product before it leaves the screen. As the material is forced through the holes in the screen as the impeller rotates, this decreases the size of the particles. Please note, particles leaving the hole will be reduced and smaller that the hole itself. This is due to the fact that the particles exit at a diagonal trajectory rather than at 90 degrees. Thus, the speed of the impeller will impact particle size in this instance. The faster the speed is set, the smaller the particle which is produced.
Grater Hole Screen
The Grater Hole Screen is specifically designed for the milling of hard or coarse substances which may require a more aggressive milling action. Common applications include the milling of hard substances or products which are trying to be reclaimed such as tablets, sweets or seeds. These applications will usually require a square-bar impeller.
Square Hole Screen
Square Hole screens (which possess a larger aperture) are frequently utilised in the milling of coarse products. These screens prove to be ideal for the deagglomeration of materials such as fruits or for producing flakes of final material.
This type of screen is also suitable for wet milling applications such as de-lumping of wet mass granulation in pharmaceutical processing.
Conidur Hole Screen
The Conidur Hole Screen is also designed with a raised hole to create a rasp much like the grater hole screen. However, the conidur screen is able to produce a smaller particle size. This too is designed for the milling of coarse materials which require a more aggressive milling action.
The screen itself is comprised from conidur sheet, thus enabling it to be manufactured with a reduced hole size compared with grater hole screens.
Slotted Hole Screen
The Slotted Hole Screen is best suited to wet granulation sizing and milling applications. Similar to square hole screens, however they produce larger particle sizes.
Diffusion Bonded Screen
The diffusion bonded mill screen offers a pioneering design whereby it utilises no adhesive. This therefore offers an ultra-hygienic, GMP solution in conical screen mills. This innovative screen design enables customers to achieve further reduced particles compared with other standard screen designs.
