The need for ATEX/Ex-Proof
“An explosive atmosphere is defined as a mixture of dangerous substances with air, under atmospheric conditions, in the form of gases, vapours, mist or dust in which, after ignition has occurred, combustion spreads to the entire unburned mixture.”1
Hence, the presence of gas or dust in certain atmospheres can potentially ignite. This is particularly true of grinding processes, where all three factors needed for a fire-risk are present.
Hanningfield’s ATEX Solutions
Hanningfield are highly experienced in the supply of ATEX/Ex-Proof equipment for use in even the most demanding environments up to ATEX Zone 0/20 (1GD).
ATEX helps to mitigate the risk of an explosion when handling powders or vapours, especially those with combustible characteristics (e.g. low value MIE – Minimum Ignition Energy).
ATEX classifications help align machinery standards for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. When you select a certified ATEX machine, it should mean there are Technical Files in place to ensure safe operation, with those Technical Files reviewed and stored by a Notified Body.
In addition, Hanningfield holds a QAN (Quality Assurance Notice) which involves periodic audit and assessment, to ensure adherence to the required standards. Alongside compliance to ATEX Standards, we can also supply equipment for alternative Ex standards, such as NFPA Class / Div and IECEX.
Hanningfield’s Range of ATEX Equipment
