Powder Recovery Cyclone – Technical Description
On a typical pharmaceutical application, powder is extracted from the process machine on the LEV line. Whereas this would typically flow straight to the central dust extraction, placing a cyclone in-line intercepts the material while it is still in the process room (and before it reaches the extraction source, regularly clogging the filters). By capturing the powder inside the process room, the cyclone enables local batch loss reconciliation, a best-practice approach to the issue of capturing and accounting for powder loss.
On most applications the cyclone will capture between 95 – 99.9% of excess powder in a collection pot at the foot of the cyclone. Efficiency varies with particle size, proximity of the cyclone to the process machine and how correctly the cyclone has been sized (please ensure airflows and pipe diameters are correct and constant). In addition to the powder recovery cyclone, the system can be integrated with an optional “police” HEPA filter to guarantee system efficiency of 99.9% (on particles >0.3µm).
The Uni-Dust cyclone is specifically designed to meet the powder recovery needs of the pharmaceutical and other sanitary industries. The unit features a crevice-free, GMP stainless steel construction with FDA compliant seals. The unit can be modified to include safe-change for the handling of dangerous or potent compounds.
