Powder Systems

Hanningfield design and manufacture systems for handling and processing powder.

Systems for controlling powder can be the difference between a smooth and problematic process.  Hanningfield manufacutre a range of powder systems which can help improve your process:

Powder Handling

Vacuum Conveyors - By automating and containing the transfer of powder, vacuum conveyors can help improve your powder handling. Powder can be transferred directly from containers to downstream processes, automating and improving the handling of powder.  For more information, click here.

Powder Processing

Cone Mills - Milling is a vital stage in processing, and is commonly used for deagglomeration, wet and dry granulation sizing, scrap reclaim,  tablet reclaim and many other applications. Cone mills offer many advantages over their alternatives, specifically; minimal heat generation, little dust, low noise, higher throughput and many other benefits. Powder Containment

Powder Recovery Cyclones - The cyclone is placed between the tablet press/capsule filling machine etc. and the LEV line in a process room, and collects excess powder in a capture-pot at the bottom of the cyclone.  Once the material is collected, operators can reconcile batch losses. The Uni-Dust cyclone separates over 95% of solids from the air, capturing excess powder in the process room and allowing clean air to pass to the central dust extraction system. High Efficiency Cyclones for the Pharmaceutical Industry

The Hanningfield ‘Uni-Dust’ high efficiency cyclone is capable of capturing up to 99.99% of excess dust from pharmaceutical processing.

The high efficiency cyclone is uniquely placed within the process room itself, capturing excess dust in a catch pot.  This prevents excess powder from flowing to the central dust extraction, preventing the blocking of filters, and the expenses that come with changing these filters.

For example. Excess powder from a tablet press or a capsule filling machine can be collected in the process room itself - making batch loss reconciliation simple.

Experts in Powder Handling

Controlling powder can be the key to running a successful process. Problems with powder can cause issues throughout the whole process and compromise the quality of the end-product. Improving the handling of powder can wield significant benefits in driving costs down and quality up.

Hanningfield have more than 20 years experience in the handling and processing of powder. The following equipment may be of interest if you are looking to improve your powder handling:

Vacuum Conveying Systems - these automate the transfer of powder from ‘A’ to ‘B’. This is a great method for reducing the manual handling of powders, and increasing throughput by moving upto 4,000 kgs/hr.

Powder Cyclones - for capturing the excess dust from tablet presses, capsule filling machines and sachet filling machines.

Hygienic Process Valves - for controlling the flow of powders.

Silicone Sleeves - for inserting between two pieces of misaligned equipment to contain the flow of powder from one to another.

Silicone Dust Caps - for placing over inlets to contain the transfer of powder.

Custom Engineering - Hanningfield have designed and manufactured many custom-built solutions, which solve niche powder handling problems for customers. From concept, to design, to manufacture, Hanningfield can help solve any powder problem.

Intermediate Bulk Container Handling

Intermediate bulk container handling is an important part of processing, as powder is nearly always, at some point, stored in an intermediate bulk container (IBC).

There are various ways in which one might consider the handling of an IBC:

Loading an IBC with Powder -powder often needs to be loaded into an IBC, either direct from a bag, a blender, a fluid bed dryer, or another other process machine.  This can be achieved using a Hanningfield vacuum conveyor, which transports powder in a fully contained, dust-free manner.  Click here for more info.

Unloading Powder from an IBC - Alternatively, an IBC already containing powder may need to be unloaded, sucking the powder from the IBC and transporting it to the next stage of the process.  This allows powder to be transferred directly from an IBC to a tablet press, capsule filling machine, a blender, a mill, or any other process machine. Click here for more info.

Lifting, turning and inverting an IBC - Sometimes it is preferable to lift an IBC for processing, to feed the below process machine using gravity feed.  This allows the powder in the IBC to fall downwards and is an extremely common method for IBC discharge. Click here for more info.

Welder/Fabricator Vacancy (Southend, Essex)

Hanningfield are pleased to announce a vacancy for a welder/fabricator.

The successful applicant will be extremely skilled in precision stainless steel welding, and very familiar with fabrication including rolling, folding etc.  Development work such as round to square is essential.  Must be capable of working to high quality pharmaceutical, chemical and food industry standards.

The job offers excellent pay for the right experience and skill.  Please send all C.V.’s to careers@hanningfield.com.

Fine Milling of Powders

The milling of bulk material to a fine powder is vital to creating a quality finished product.

By milling raw material to a fine and consistent particle size, lumps, bumps and irregularities can be removed to product an excellent and repeatable finished product.

The Hanningfield Uni-Mill offers many great advantages for the processing of powders.  For more information, please click here.

Wet Milling of Powders

The size reduction of powder is an essential part of material processing - this can be especially true prior to drying.

Through wet milling, lumpy and uneven powder can be reduced to a uniform particle size.  This results in a faster drying time as the surface area of the material is increased, and will also benefit the quality of the finished product.

Dust Containment - Make Your Process Safe

The containment of dust during pharmaceutical, food and chemical processing is vital.

Any excess dust which is not properly captured can enter the working environment and compromise the safety of workers.  Airborne dust particles can be extremely hazarous, hence the containment of this becomes vital.  The Uni-Dust cyclone helps contain this problem, whilst making product reintroduction or batch loss reconciliation possible.

Dust Control in Pharmaceuticals

The control of excess dust in pharmaceutical processing is extremely important.  Wayward dust can become airborne and compromise the safety of the working environment and the validity of other products.

Controlling the excess dust becomes vital, and the Uni-Dust powder recovery cyclone can play a pivotal role in this.  By capturing excess dust before it reaches the central dust extraction system, the filterless cyclone is able to retain waste powder in the process room.  This prevents a dangerous mix of powders from forming in the central filter, making the working environment much safer.  This also helps significantly prolong the life of the filter, which is often difficult and expensive to replace.

Innovative Powder Cyclone

The Uni-Dust powder recovery cyclone is capable of collecting excess dust from process machinery such as tablet presses or capsule filling machines.

This offers excellent advantages, as captured powder can either be reconciled or even re-used.
